It looks as though the milter debugging setting we're talking about might 
be the wrong one.  You might have more luck by starting the MTA with 
"-d64.10 -D/tmp/smlog" on the command line, which (it appears) will set a 
flag that will cause the MTA to log milter data to the file named there.
