For your package I would recommend at least #95, #165_incomplete, #166, 
#185 and #187 - the last two are essential. For #159 & #179 see below. 
MSK said he will need some time to dig into #193, but it might be worth 
including it.

You need to run autoreconf after applying these patches, as they touch
Makefile.am files.

Yes, but the way we did it is not quite correct, as I recently 
discovered. It's ok for now, but we use an autoconf internal variable 
which should not be used according to the docs. Need to dig deeper into 
the automake/autoconf documentation how to do it right.
